OAR Figure Skater Sets World Record in Ladies’ Short Program

Teenage figure skating star Alina Zagitova set a new world record in the ladies’ short program at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics on Wednesday.

Zagitova, representing Olympic Athletes from Russia(OAR), put on a near-flawless performance at the Gangneung Ice Arena to earn a score of 82-point-92.

That score put the 15 year-old just ahead of her compatriot Evgenia Medvedeva, who had earlier set the world record with a score of 81-point-61. Canada’s Kaetlyn Osmond finished in third.

South Korean teenage figure skaters Choi Da-bin and Kim Ha-neul, who are both making their Olympic debuts, made it through to the free program as they finished in eighth and 21st respectively.

The top 24 of the 30 competing skaters advanced to Friday’s free program.
