Ball Games Canceled Due to Fine Dust for the First Time

Three baseball games were cancelled due to fine dust on Friday, marking the first time poor air quality has been responsible for such a move in South Korea.

Fine dust advisories had been issued following the influx of large amounts of yellow dust from China.

The three domestic league games of the Korea Baseball Organization's regular season were scheduled from 6:30 p.m. in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province.

As of 5:30 p.m. Friday, the dust concentration level at Jamsil Stadium in southern Seoul measured 377 micrograms per cubic meter which far exceeds the 150 level that triggers a fine dust advisory and 300 level which calls for a fine dust warning.

Yellow dust particles have mostly moved eastward carried by westerly winds. Fine dust concentration in most parts of the country indicated a moderate level on Saturday.
