South and North Korea will open a hotline between their leaders on Friday, exactly a week ahead of their historic summit. 

Presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom announced the planned opening of the direct phone line between President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, while briefing on the results of the sixth meeting of the preparation committee for the inter-Korean summit held earlier on Thursday. 

He said working-level officials from the two sides will test the hotline first before the two leaders hold their first call at a date that has yet to be decided.
