Defense Ministry: N. Korea Apparently Halting Anti-S. Korea Broadcasts

North Korea’s military appears to be gradually halting its anti-South Korea broadcasts over the border in response to the South’s suspension on Monday of its loudspeaker announcements.

A Defense Ministry official said Monday that signs have emerged the North is stopping in phases propaganda loudspeaker broadcasts it has been carrying out at some 40 locations along the Military Demarcation Line.

The official said though it cannot be confirmed whether the North turned them off, such broadcasts are being heard less than on average days.

The South’s military resumed loudspeaker broadcasts after the North conducted its fourth nuclear test in January 2016. In response, the North installed and operated its own propaganda loudspeakers at some 40 locations.
