North Korea has criticized Seoul for its attempt to transport additional construction materials and devices into the South Korean base where the U.S. THAAD antimissile system is based. 

In a commentary on Tuesday, the state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) said it's nonsensical for the South Korean authorities to talk about peace while it holds on to the U.S. missile defense system. 

The commentary also took aim at the Seoul government for cracking down on protesters and activists resisting the move. 

The agency said no matter how hard the South Korean authorities try to persuade the public over the deployment, it cannot cover up what it called the "treacherous and antinationalistic nature" of THAAD. 

In a separate statement, the agency also criticized the U.S. over its demand during recent defense cost sharing talks with the South that Seoul share the cost of deploying U.S. strategic assets to the Korean Peninsula.
