Leaders of Two Koreas to Receive Guard of Honor on Summit Day

Kim Jong-un will become the first North Korean leader to receive a South Korean military guard of honor during a historic inter-Korean summit on Friday.

The Defense Ministry said Wednesday that the Army, Navy and the Air Force will hold the event in honor of the leaders of South and North Korea to help the summit succeed.

President Moon Jae-in and Kim will walk through the honor guard at the truce village of Panmunjeom, the venue for the meeting.

The ministry said that the event will be held in accordance with the military's related procedures based on international practices and similar cases in the past.

At the previous two inter-Korean summits in 2000 and 2007 which were held in Pyongyang, then-South Korean Presidents, Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun, walked through a North Korean guard of honor with the then-leader, Kim Jong-il.
