Seoul Seeks Sports, Culture Exchanges with Pyongyang

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is considering launching various exchange programs with North Korea's capital city Pyongyang in the wake of the historic inter-Korean summit.

According to a Seoul City official on Monday, it plans to start exchanges with Pyongyang in the sports and culture sectors and seek to jointly host the 100th annual national sports festival in the South slated for next year.

Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon and advisers for the city’s inter-Korean exchange cooperation committee will hold talks on the matter during a session on Wednesday.

The official said currently it is not easy for Seoul to expand its inter-Korean exchange programs beyond culture and sports due to international sanctions on the North. However, the official added that expanding humanitarian assistance will also be a part of the discussion.
