Jun Myung-kyu, who was considered the "Godfather" of Korea's skating world, was found to have wielded undue influence both during and after his time as the vice president of the Korea Skating Union.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism made the revelation on Wednesday when it announced the results of a special audit on the skating union that it jointly conducted with the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee between March 26th and April 30th.

The ministry said that by running the organization in an abnormal manner through a standing council that does not exist in the union's statute, the skating union had ultimately abetted in Jun exercising undue power.

The audit found that Jun took advantage of his personal connections and exercised undue influence to get the coach of South Korea’s national speed skating team to face disciplinary action during the 2013 Winter Universiade that took place in Trentino, Italy.

The sports ministry said that even after he stepped down from his post in April 2014, Jun wielded influence in cancelling the contract of a Dutch coach and in attempting to bring in a Canadian coach.

The ministry added that it believes that Jun was also involved in some athletes of the national speed skating team getting special preferential training at Korea National Sport University.
