A U.S. former special representative for North Korea policy predicts the U.S. officials will aim to develop documents that detail three steps for the North's denuclearization during their talks with North Korean officials.

Joseph Yun told the New York Times on Sunday that the U.S. officials engaging in working-level talks with the North are likely to focus on developing documents agreed on both sides on the detailed process of the North's denuclearization.

Yun said that the first step will probably be a declaration of how far the North is willing to go in abandoning their nuclear program.

The second is deciding how and when Pyongyang would denuclearize and the third is determining how the U.S. would verify those claims.

Yun said the issue of whether or not the summit can be realized depends on whether the two sides have sufficient time to make progress on an agreement.
