According to the Central Anti-Disaster Headquarters (CADH), while the number of typhoon-related dead and missing remained at 117, estimates of property damage sustained from Typhoon Maemi rose sharply to some 1.2 trillion won (US$1 billion).

The new estimate, a significant rise from the 450 billion won estimated the previous day, was revised after the CADH collected more information following the restoration of communication links with rural areas.

The CADH said 91 people were confirmed dead and 26 were still missing as of 4 p.m. Monday.

Property damage was estimated at 1.18 trillion won with nearly 5,000 houses and other structures being destroyed or submerged nationwide.

Typhoon Maemi also caused damage to numerous roads, bridges, and farmland, and left nearly 9,000 people homeless.
