A group of more than 30 nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) threatened Tuesday to strongly protest any decision to send South Korean combat troops to Iraq.

In a joint news conference, representatives of the People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD) and over 30 other progressive NGOs said they would soon stage rallies nationwide.

A group representative charged that the Roh Moo-hyun administration, which dispatched army engineering and medical units to Iraq in May, is about to send combat troops to Iraq again in response to the request by the United States.
