The government said Tuesday that it would designate special disaster zones September 24th, adding that it has already provided 10 billion won or $8.5 million dollars in emergency subsidies to the provinces hardest hit by Typhoon Maemi to help repair roads and provide relief goods to the thousands made homeless by the typhoon.

In a report to president Roh Moo Hyun, Government Administration and Home Affairs Minister Kim Doo-gwan said the ministry will also arrange for more comprehensive subsidies to be provided to the typhoon-ravaged provinces in November, when provincial governments have completed the compilation of damage reports and produced comprehensive plans for rehabilitation projects.

The minister said Typhoon Maemi had left 96 dead and 25 missing as of Tuesday morning and caused nearly 1.4 trillion won in property damage.
