Minister of Planning and Budget Park Bong-heum said Thursday the government will decide whether or not to ask parliament for a supplementary budget in October.

The minister said that the National Disaster Prevention and Countermeasures Headquarters was expected to come up with complete damage estimates from Typhoon Maemi early next month, and that any government plans required a review of these numbers.

Park, however said that with initial damage estimates tallied at over 4 trillion won, the government may well have to ask lawmakers for more funds.

The government has about 1.1 trillion won in reserves to cope with emergency situations.

Park said that if a supplementary budget is called for, first priority will be given to repairing social infrastructure like roads and bridges.
