Donations for N. Korean Food Aid Up 50% in 2 Months

Radio Free Asia(RFA) reports that following inter-Korean and Washington-Pyongyang summit talks, donations for North Korean food aid to the UN World Food Programme(WFP) have jumped 50 percent.

According to RFA, the WFP raised over 15 million dollars for North Korean aid from the international community as of Tuesday, which is up by more than five million dollars from late April.

The French government donated one-point-nine million dollars to the UN agency in late April while the government of Canada gave one-point-15 million dollars.

But the WFP says it needs 52 million dollars for North Korean food aid by the year's end. Donations so far account for 29 percent of that total.

The WFP also cited challenges in the transport of relief supplies since UN sanctions were stepped up against North Korea.
