Joint Investigation Team Assesses Damage of Typhoon-hit Areas

A joint investigation team will begin on-site inspection Friday to assess the damage in areas hit by Typhoon Maemi.

The team is comprised of one-hundred-34 public officials from the Ministries of Home Affairs, Construction and Transportation, Agriculture and Forestry and the Office of Korean National Railroads.

The team will inspect eight typhoon-hit cities and provinces, including Busan, until next Tuesday and subsequently draw up a relief plan for the areas.

The government plans to announce the designation of special disaster zones by next Wednesday at the earliest, after the investigation team files its damage reports.

As of Friday morning, the death toll from the powerful storm stands at 129, with property damages amounting to more than four-point-six trillion won or around four billion U.S. dollars.
