Brazil and Switzerland secured their places in the last-16 stage of the FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

Brazil defeated Serbia 2-0 in Moscow to top Group E with seven points. Paulinho opened the scoring for the South Americans, before defender Thiago Silva headed home the second to seal the win.   

Meanwhile, Switzerland drew 2-2 with Costa Rica in the day’s other match in Group E to finish second in the group and join Brazil in the knockout round. 

Blerim Dzemaili and Josip Drmic netted for Switzerland, while Costa Rica scored through Kendall Waston and an own goal from Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer. 

Brazil will play Mexico in the round of 16 on Monday, while Switzerland will take on Sweden on Tuesday.
