South Korean national goalkeeper Cho Hyun-woo, who rose to stardom during the country’s short-lived campaign at the Russia World Cup, has expressed his wish to play in Europe.

In a press conference at Incheon International Airport held to welcome the returning South Korean national football team following its early exit from the tournament on Friday, the 26-year-old said he will work hard to become famous enough to play in Europe.

The Daegu F.C. goalie initially joined the national team as a backup member, but played for the entirety of all three group matches.

In Team Korea's Group F matches against Sweden, Mexico and Germany, he conceded only three goals, including two penalty kicks, and greatly contributed to South Korea’s 2-0 victory over defending champions Germany, saving six effective shots.

The BBC recognized Cho’s successful campaign and named him as one of the best eleven players at the group stage of the Russia World Cup.
