A tropical storm is making its way towards the Korean Peninsula.

The Korea Meteorological Administration issued an alert on Friday for the storm named Prapiroon, which developed 740 kilometers south-southeast off Japan’s Okinawa Island at around 9 a.m.

The seventh typhoon of the season is forecast to approach 70 kilometers off the southern coast of Jeju Island by Monday, then travel north towards Seosan, South Chungcheong Province later that night.

Meanwhile, monsoon rains will hit most regions in the country over the weekend, with the Seoul metropolitan area and western and southern coasts getting up to 150 millimeters of precipitation.
