Gov't Decides to Produce 500 Next-generation Helicopters by 2012

South Korea plans to produce some five hundred next-generation helicopters by 2012. The 15 trillion won or 13 billion dollar project is the country's single largest arms procurement project.

The Defense Ministry said the Korean Multi-purpose Helicopter project is aimed at replacing the military's aging fleet of helicopters and reviving the domestic aerospace industry.
