K-pop girl group BlackPink has set a new record for the highest ever 24-hour YouTube debut for a Korean music video.

YG Entertainment said on Friday that the music video for Ddu-Du Ddu-Du, the title track for BlackPink's first mini album SQUARE UP, was viewed more than 36-point-2 million times in the 24 hours after it was posted to YouTube.

Internationally, American singer Taylor Swift still holds the record, with "Look What You Made Me Do" garnering 43-point-2 million views in the 24 hours after it was posted in August last year. BlackPink’s latest video is now the second in the music video debut ranking.

Billboard noted that BlackPink was "[making] history," adding "the female quartet debuts the highest-charting hit ever by a K-pop girl group on the Billboard Hot 100," opening at No. 55.
