Costs from traffic congestion from the five-year period 19-97 through 2001 have been estimated at almost 90 trillion won or some 81 billion U.S. dollars.

In a report submitted to the parliamentary committee on construction and transportation, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation put the cost from traffic congestion at around 88-point-four trillion won.

The figure in 19-97 declined to 12 trillion won in 1998 but has been rising ever since 2001 when it posted some 21 trillion won.
