Two unified Korean mixed doubles teams both advanced to the next stage of an international table tennis tournament in South Korea on Tuesday.

The team of Choe Il and Yoo Eun-chong defeated Alvaro Robles and Galia Dvorak of Spain 3-2 at Hanbat Gymnasium in Daejeon, securing a place in the round of 16 at the International Table Tennis Federation World Tour Platinum Korea Open.

The joint duo of Jang Woo-jin and Cha Hyo-sim also progressed to the last-16 stage after their Mongolian opponents, Battumur Baatar and Delgermaa Mergen, withdrew.

Choe and Yoo will face the strong South Korean pair Lee Sang-su and Jeon Ji-hee, considered to be among the favorites to win gold at the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia, in the next round on Thursday.

Four joint Korean pairs are competing in the tournament, with the Koreas also entering a unified team each in the men's and women's doubles alongside the two mixed doubles teams.
