KBS Remains Most Influential Broadcaster with 28% Viewership Rate

The Korean Broadcasting System(KBS) has retained its top position in viewership ratings.  

According to the Korea Communications Commission, KBS led 270 other broadcasters in viewership share in 2017, receiving 27-point-89 percent. 

It marks the third year in a row KBS was atop the ranking, although its share declined by about zero-point-seven percent from 2016. 

MBC placed a distant second with 12-point-47 percent, down two-point-52 percentage points from the previous year, for the steepest decline among the terrestrial broadcasters and program providers. SBC ranked fifth at eight-point-66 percent, edging down zero-point-01 percentage point. 

Major program provider CJ E&M came in third at 11 percent, while general programming channel JTBC jumped to fourth place at nine-point-45 percent, up one-point-72 percentage points on-year, thanks to its largest share increase among the broadcasters and program providers. 

TV Chosun’s share dropped by zero-point-94 percentage points to eight-point-89 percent for sixth, trailed by Channel A with six-point-62 percent.
