With sizzling temperatures continuously scorching the nation, heat wave advisories were issued for all of the country's inland areas on Friday for the first time this year.

Only parts of Jeju Island and some islands in waters off the west coast have not been hit by the extreme heat.

Heat wave warnings are issued when afternoon highs stand over 35 degrees Celsius for more than two days, while heat wave watches are provided when afternoon highs reach 33 degrees for over two days.

Most parts of the country are suffering from sweltering heat for the tenth day since the monsoon season ended last Wednesday.

An official of the Korea Meteorological Administration said most regions, excluding coastal and mountainous areas, are expected to continuously see afternoon highs surpass 35 degrees and experience tropical nights.
