Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun is on her way to North Korea to attend a memorial service for her late husband and former Hyundai chairman Chung Mong-hun.

Hyun arrived at the inter-Korean transit office Friday morning with a dozen corporate officials from where she will drive across the Military Demarcation Line and head to Mount Geumgang for the ceremony.

The chairwoman may discuss prospects on future inter-Korean economic cooperation with North Korean officials should they attend the service.

However, the South Korean delegation is set to return home around 4 p.m., leaving little time for talks. Global sanctions on Pyongyang also present an obstacle to discussions.

A memorial service for the former Hyundai chief, who committed suicide in 2003, was last held at Mount Geumgang in 2015. The chairwoman last visited the North four years ago.
