South Korea's under-23 football team led by head coach Kim Hak-bum lost to Malaysia 2 to 1 in the second Group E match held Friday at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, Indonesia.
The defending champions were crushed after Safawi Rasid scored both goals for Malaysia.
Hwang Ui-jo managed to score one goal for Korea, but the team was unable to find an equalizer.
With the latest result, Korea dropped to second place in Group E with one win and one loss. Malaysia is in first place with two wins.
Korea will next face Kyrgyzstan on Monday in its final group stage match.
If it finishes second in Group E, Korea will face the first place winner of Group F in the round of 16.
The men’s football team is the current Asian Games defending champion, having won the tournament at the 2014 Games in Incheon.
