North Korea has called for a delay of a joint event designed to commemorate the October 4 Declaration of the 2007 inter-Korean summit.

The South Korean committee for the Implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration said on Friday that the North Korean side proposed the event be moved back from early October to mid-October, citing a need for more discussions and preparation.

The South Korean committee said it is positively considering the request, adding it will hold talks with related government agencies so the event can be held on a large scale.

In June, the two sides agreed to hold a sizable event to mark the 11th anniversary of the 2007 summit as well as other major events significant to both Koreas.

Commemorations for the October 4 Declaration have not been held for the past 10 years, since June of 2008. Civilian groups in both Koreas and pro-unification groups overseas are expected to attend the upcoming event.
