South Korea’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister is calling for support from Japan and China over Seoul’s plan to form numerous joint Korean teams during the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Speaking to reporters in Tokyo on Thursday, Do Jong-hwan said he made the request during his meetings with his Japanese and Chinese counterparts earlier in the day.

Do said he also shared South Korea’s plan to seek to jointly host the FIFA World Cup with North Korea, Japan and China in 2030 or 2034.

During the trilateral ministers’ meeting, the ministers adopted the “Tokyo Action Plan” aimed at accelerating sports exchanges among the three countries and helping peaceful coexistence in East Asia.
