More than 100 flights are expected to be cancelled at Jeju International Airport as Typhoon Kong-Rey is forecast to reach less than 200 kilometers south-southwest off the southern resort island by around 9 p.m. Friday.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said strong wind and wind shear warnings were in effect at Jeju International Airport and that all flights would be cancelled from 6 p.m.

By midnight, a total of 68 planes scheduled to depart and 72 planes set to arrive at the airport will be affected by the measure. The tropical storm is reported to have maximum wind speeds of 180 kilometers per hour.

The ministry said passengers who booked flights were being notified of the cancellations individually, but still advised them to confirm exact details via their airline's Web site.
