This year's 25th typhoon Kong-rey made landfall in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province just before 10 a.m. Saturday.

It's forecast to pass through southeastern cities of Busan and Ulsan and exit into the East Sea in the afternoon.

Kong-rey is a medium strength typhoon with maximum wind speed of 115 kilometers per hour at its center.

Typhoon advisories are in effect on Jeju Island and across eastern Jeolla and Gyeongsang provinces. Jeju saw 310 milimeters of rainfall on Friday, the second highest for a daily precipitation since the recording started on the island in 1923.

A large number of flights have been cancelled Friday and Saturday.

The Transport Ministry says over 270 flights including over 60 international flights are cancelled through Saturday morning.

Many festivals and events scheduled this weekend have also been delayed or cancelled.

However the Seoul International Fireworks Festival is set to be held as scheduled on Saturday at Yeouido's Han River Park.
