Song questioned by prosecution

Written: 2003-10-06 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

South Korean dissident scholar Song Doo-yul was summoned by the prosecution for a second day of questioning over his alleged involvement in pro-North Korean activities.

The Korean-German professor, upon appearing at the prosecutors' office, headed directly for the questioning room without responding to a flurry of reporters' questions.

Song's defense counsel Kim Hyung Tae said that it was true that Song had been viewed by the North as being a politburo member of the North Korean Workers' Party, but denied his client had ever been elected as a Politburo member.

Kim also stated that the former dissident was also invited to the funeral of the late North Korean leader Kim Il-sung in 1994 but had never been elected as a North Korean Politburo member either before or after that time.

The prosecution plans to scrutinize points left unclear after the first round of questioning, and will continue their probe while allowing Song to freely commute for the time being between his lodgings and the prosecutors' office.
