The Turkish parliament has voted in favor of dispatching troops to war-ravaged Iraq.

In a closed ballot Tuesday, the Grand National Assembly passed the troop dispatch motion, with three-hundred-58 votes cast advocating the dispatch and one-hundred-83 votes against the move.

As a result, Turkey is expected to be the first Islamic nation to send troops to aid in post-war rehabilitation efforts in Iraq.

The Turkish media anticipated that the move will enhance recently frayed ties with the United States.
