Korean-American WHO official chosen as MacArthur Fellow

Dr. Jim Kim, a Korean-American advisor to the World Health Organization, was honored as a recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship for the year 2003, as designated by the Douglas MacArthur Foundation.

In its fellowship announcement, the foundation cited Dr. Kim's contributions to the development of a new treatment for pneumonia sufferers. The foundation also bestowed special praise on Kim's medical endeavors on the behalf of poverty-stricken patients in Peru and Russia.

The MacArthur foundation has offered the fellowship annually since 1981, selecting 20 promising figures based on creativity and humanitarian efforts.
