A majority of Koreans think it appropriate to implement a national referendum on a confidence vote involving the incumbent President Roh around December 15th.

According to a poll conducted by Media Research Tuesday, 76.6 percent of the respondents said that it is appropriate for the government to conduct the national referendum around mid-December, whereas 18.1 percent called the move inappropriate.

58.3 percent of the respondents also said they would give Roh their positive vote of confidence, an increase of 6.9 percent compared to affirmative answers to the same question given October 11th, a day after Roh's announcement of the confidence vote.

As to the timing of a possible presidential election, should Roh fail to win the public's mandate, 67.3 percent responded they preferred holding it simultaneously with next year's general elections, while 27.7 percent opposed the idea.

The research was conducted on 979 people from across the nation with an error rate of plus minus 3.1 percentage points.
