A Korean-American who fired gunshots in front of the U.N. headquarters in New York a year ago has been sentenced to 27 months in prison.

A Manhattan Federal Court Judge also fined Steve Kim seven-thousand-200 dollars.

Kim, a naturalized U.S. citizen who worked as a federal postal employee, was arrested last October after firing a gun seven times in the air in front of the U.N. headquarters.

Kim claimed it was an attempt to raise awareness of human rights abuses in North Korea.
