A study estimates that fine dust caused an economic loss of over four trillion won last year by impairing the country's production activities.

The Hyundai Research Institute said on Sunday that economic loss from fine dust is estimated at four-point-23 trillion won last year, which is point-two percent of the country's nominal gross domestic product (GDP).

The private think tank said that a loss of over 158 billion won was caused on the days when fine dust advisories were issued last year.

The institute also said fine dust impaired an average of six-point-seven percent of production activities.

The institute released the findings based on a survey of over one-thousand adults nationwide last month.
