A group of U.S. senators has submitted a resolution aimed at expressing gratitude for South Korea's contributions to U.S. operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Sen. Joseph Biden introduced the resolution in the Senate on Oct. 31, along with five colleagues Sens. Richard Lugar, Sam Brownback, Chuck Hagel, Christopher Dodd and John Kerry.

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the South Korea-U.S. alliance, the resolution expresses thanks for Seoul's contribution to the U.S.-led war against terrorism and efforts to rebuild Afghanistan and Iraq.

South Korea has dispatched 285 medics and 150 army engineers to Afghanistan since February 2002.

Last May, about 675 South Korean army engineers and medics were sent to Iraq to assist in reconstruction efforts there, and Seoul announced last month its intent to send additional troops to the war-torn country.
