The Unification Ministry has approved a project proposed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information on exchanging scientific research information with North Korea.

The institute inked a deal with its North Korean counterpart last year and applied for governmental approval earlier this year.

Although there have been several inter-Korean exchanges in the information technology fields before, this is the first time the two Koreas will exchange information in the area of pure science.
