The Ministry of Construction and Transportation said on Wednesday South Korea and China have agreed to double the number of flights flying the Incheon-Beijing air route to meet surging demand.

A ministry official said that, with the expansion of trade and tourism between the two countries, air traffic has increased 17 percent on average per annum, spawning the need for expanded air routes.

He added that details regarding the idea are under discussion.

The official also said both sides shared the opinion that aviation talks on a regular basis would be required somewhere down the road, and agreed to open high-level talks in China in March.
