The death toll from the outbreak of a new coronavirus in China reached 170 as of 12 a.m. Thursday.

According to China's National Health Commission, the number of confirmed infections across the country rose to seven-thousand-711, with 170 deaths. 

Thursday's figures represent an increase of 38 deaths and one-thousand-737 cases from the previous day.

Of the new deaths, 37 were reported in Hubei Province, where the epicenter of the outbreak, Wuhan, is located. The number of confirmed cases in the province also soared by one-thousand-32 in a day. 

Tibet has reported its first case and the contagion has now spread to Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
