The prosecution issued an arrest warrant Friday for Lee Kwang-jae, one of President Roh Moo-hyun's close former aides, on charges of violating political funding laws during then candidate Roh's presidential campaign last year.

Prosecutors indicated that they have unearthed evidence that other Roh aides may have also been involved in illegal activities.

Lee was grilled by prosecutors Wednesday on suspicions that he had received 100 million won (US$85,000) from a currently detained businessman just before last year's presidential election.

Prosecutors also suggested that an arrest warrant will soon be sought against a Grand National Party (GNP) legislator suspected of playing a key role in collecting illicit political funds during the same presidential campaign.

Choi Don-woong, who served as the GNP's chief financial official during the campaign, has repeatedly ignored official summons in recent weeks to face questioning by prosecutors.
