Body of South Korean Antarctic Researcher Returns Home

The body of a South Korean researcher, who died in a boat accident off the coast of Antarctica last week, returned home Friday.
28-year-old Jeon Jae-jyu drowned in a boating accident, when the craft he and several other colleagues were on board capsized in bad weather. The others in the accident were rescued unharmed.
The government is planning to confer a meritorious award on the victim and to give special compensation to his family.
Government officials also said they will conduct an on-site inspection to enhance safety and modernize equipment and facilities at the King Sejong station in Antarctica, which opened in 1988.
