Japan to Delay Launch of Surveillance Satellites Over Korean Peninsula

Written: 2003-12-23 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun reported Tuesday that Japan has been forced to suspend until 2006 its plan to put the Korean Peninsula under satellite surveillance.

As for two unrelated satellites, the Japanese government decided not to advance the date of their launches, originally scheduled for 2005 and 2006, respectively.

Following the failure of the launching of two satellites meant to cover the Korean Peninsula on November 29th, loud voices have been raised in Japan for advancing the launch date for establishing an independent Japanese surveillance system, unaided by other nations.
