The sales of both imported and domestic beef are seeing a drastic decrease as an increasing number of customers are forgoing the eating of beef due to the recent report of a suspected case of Mad Cow Disease in the U.S.

The hypermart chain E-Mart said its sales of U.S. beef have fallen by 40 percent Thursday, as compared to previous holiday periods, while experiencing a 15 percent sales cut for Korean beef.

On the other hand, fishery products have seen considerable increases in terms of sales, with sales of certain items soaring up to 20 percent their normal rate.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries stressed Friday that Korean beef and dairy cows are still safe and free from the danger of mad cow disease.
