A 24-member rescue squad returned home on Saturday from Iran, after having assisted in rescue efforts in the ancient city of Bam, where a massive earthquake late last month reportedly killed nearly 30-thousand people.

The Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs said that the squad had discovered 57 bodies in the quake-hit city.

Earlier on Thursday, a six-member medical team left for Iran with medical supplies worth some 300 million won.

South Korea was among 41 countries that sent rescue teams, medical supplies, tents and food to Iran.
