Officials at the Baghdad branch of the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) said Sunday that KOTRA representatives will attend a two-day international conference this week on investment opportunities in the oil-rich Iraqi city of Kirkuk.
The Rebuild Kirkuk Conference, to be held Tuesday and Wednesday in the nearby city of Erbil, will highlight investment opportunities and outline business and development projects in the war-torn city.
The Kirkuk Business Center (KBC), the event's sponsor, said in a news release that the conference will center on sector-specific seminars delivered jointly by Iraqi government officials and businesspeople from the region.
Kirkuk's Governor, Abdel-Rahman Mustafa, will give a keynote speech at the event.
The KBC, composed of representatives from Kirkuk's government and U.S.-led coalition forces, was recently created to attract foreign direct investment.
Kirkuk is one of the world's largest oil-rich regions, supplying 7 percent of the world's oil reserves and 40 percent of Iraq's. Equipped with a stable transportation infrastructure, it has recently come under the international spotlight for its high economic growth potential.
