The government decided Tuesday to extend the deadline for illegal residents to voluntarily depart the country to the end of this month.

The decision was reached during a meeting of top policy makers, during which officials also decided to reduce to six months the current two-year grace period after which former illegal residents can re-enter the country.

Those illegal residents who are unable to depart due to unavoidable circumstances can submit relevant documents and passports for an additional extension.
