South Korea added 689 COVID-19 cases throughout Thursday, registering the second largest daily increase since the first infection was confirmed in late January. 

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said on Friday that of the new cases, 673 were domestic infections while 16 were imported. 

The cumulative total now stands at 40-thousand-786.
