An independent advisory panel of experts endorsed a second COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday.

According to AFP, the influential panel for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration(FDA) voted to recommend that the FDA authorize Moderna's coronavirus vaccine for emergency use in adults.

The move cleared the way for an imminent regulatory approval of a second COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S., after the vaccine by Pfizer and BioNTech. 

The FDA is expected to follow the recommendation and grant emergency authorization to Moderna's vaccine soon. 

The actual use of the vaccine requires a final recommendation from an advisory committee of the Centers for Disease and Prevention and approval from the CDC chief.
