Former mayor of Busan Oh Keo-don appeared in court for a hearing on Friday after being charged with sexually harassing another female public servant in the southern port city.
The hearing lasted about an hour at the Busan District Court where prosecutors argued the need for his arrest and presented sexual harassment charges involving a second Busan City Hall employee.
The former mayor is believed to have partially acknowledged some of the new allegations brought forward with his lawyer quoting Oh as saying he does not remember, but if the victim says so, he should acknowledge the charges and apologize.
However, his defense team has requested that Oh be tried without being detained, citing disputable elements in the allegations.
During the hearing, a women's group held a press conference outside the court demanding his arrest. One of the victims also unveiled a petition she sent to the court pleading for his arrest so that she could return to normal life.
The former mayor is at the Busan detention center waiting for the decision, which is expected later in the day. Oh resigned earlier this year after being charged with sexually harassing a female civil servant at his office in early April. The Busan District Court rejected an arrest warrant for that charge in June, saying there was insufficient reason to investigate him under detention.
